Day 28: Restoring Strength, Overcoming Parental Fragility
Reflect & ConnectWelcome to day 28 of the 31 Days of Restoration: Spiritual and Emotional Support for Parents of Children with Special Needs. You can find the main page for this series here.
No matter how much we manage in our child’s lifetime, there are days we feel all the feels at once. Everything I have touched in this series hits us in the face at lightning speed — often when we least expect it.
We can have the strength of a thousand lions, but if someone looks at us the wrong way in a moment of weakness, we feel as frail as a butterfly’s wings.
On days like this, my son reminds me what a champion of life looks like. He deals with things I cannot fathom, yet, he smiles and laughs from the gut every single day.
When was the last time you had a solid belly laugh?
Inner-strength doesn’t necessarily come from getting things accomplished or advocating loudly for our children. Inner-strength comes from the tender moments in our weakness that remind us that, like the strength of a butterfly’s wings, we can fly to wondrous places straight out of God’s blueprint.
